Foundations of Leadership

This interactive workshop equips you with clear, actionable approaches to leading teams.
You’ll practice new skills using actual workplace scenarios and leave with practical skills and toolkits to improve the impact of your leadership style and the capability of your teams.

By the end of this program, you should:

  • Understand four key elements of your role as a supervisor and the art of delegation.
  • Understand the difference between doing the work and leadership.
  • Know the importance of building relationships at all levels whenever possible.
  • Identify your Key Result Areas (KRAs)
  • Clarify your role and mission, complete your personal development plan.
  • Provide clear instructions and expectations.
  • Learn how to listen, ask insightful questions and check understanding.
  • Write clear emails.
  • Write up an incident report. Generate clear work orders.
  • Have necessary conversations about issues, performance or behaviours.
  • Understand team dynamics and personality preferences as you build and lead a team.
  • Build a respectful, inclusive and harassment‑free workplace.
  • Know your legal and moral responsibilities.
    14. Facilitate better meetings.
  • Mentor members of your team who want to learn new skills.
  • Provide feedback: reinforce great work and highlight growth areas.
  • Adopt a problem-solving process for equipment and process challenges and issues.
  • Make good decisions using the DECIDED decision model.
  • Use a weighted decision matrix to systematically compare options
  • Review a decision using a five-lens framework.
